This beautiful gemstone is famous for its blue violet colors.

The name Tanzanite comes from the world’s only tanzanite deposit in northern Tanzania. All tanzanites come from the same eight square miles area near the base of the mount Kilimanjaro.

Tanzanite is becoming increasingly rare as its source is considered finite. Geologists estimate that the source will be depleted in the next 10 to 20 years. This gemstone is unfortunately more fragile than other similar color gems such as sapphire or topaz. It has a hardness of 6.5 in the Mohs hardness scale.

I have created many designs with tanzanite's and it is a gem that I absolutely LOVE! I always inform my clients of its characteristics and I advise them to avoid impacts and sudden temperature changes.
